Cazumba do Rio

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the land of music and carnival.

Maybe that explains my pull towards music, which was evident from a very young age. In fact, my mother tells me that when I was a young boy, I could not stop drumming and banging on pretty much everything around me. I was even taken to a doctor to be evaluated for this because my parents were afraid that something was seriously wrong with me. After series of examinations and tests, the doctor told my parents "all tests came back normal, your son is not sick, he is a drummer". I started studying music in 1981 at Villas Lobos School and specialized in percussion with Luizao Bastos who tought at Culture Center Jose Bonifacio. Music was my first love and source of healing. Later in life I discovered my second passion, Yoga. I quickly became obsessed with this ancient eastern technology, which lead me to travel to India where I became a Yoga instructor. I consider myself a very lucky man, because I get to do what I love for a living. For the past three years my practice has consisted of playing music and teaching Yoga.
